THE VERLEY SCANDAL
Most scandals can be avoided. Are the Verleys doomed?
When news of Tom’s death in exile reaches Henry Verley, Duke of Maldon, he must escort his brother's widow and her small son back to England. Meeting Julia brings back haunting memories of her from his days as a naive, youthful student at Cambridge. Henry, restrained and disciplined though he is, fears the journey will stir long-buried desires with possibly scandalous consequences. Julia, sad and destitute, reluctantly leaves her friends in Genoa and embarks on the journey across Europe only recently freed of Napoleon. By nature friendly and used to the relaxed and informal ways of Tom’s friends in Genoa, she is determined to persuade her cold, reserved brother-in-law to unbend. Her only fear is the revelation of a scandal in her past.
Fatefully, neither knows that Tom hid secrets and a woman is waiting the perfect time to take revenge.
