Drawing of regency romance author, Hazel Williams

I’ve loved books and novels ever since I could read. I dreamed of being a writer but was convinced I was not creative enough and would never be able to write as well as the authors I admired. I was probably right there but many years later, here I am enjoying the process of creating novels.

I’ve been an archaeologist (fascinating but uncomfortable), a lawyer (not a good idea), run a plant nursery (I love plants, gardening not so much) and designed gardens (it turns out I can be creative!).

An MA proved to me I could write well and that people wanted to publish what I had written. A brief career in admin gave me invaluable knowledge of IT. Finally the experience of helping my daughter with her writing, gave me the push I needed to try writing novels myself.

Hazel Williams is a Historical and Regency romance writer, author of The Verley Scandal. Her well-received first novel, A Christmas Masquerade, was published last year. An MA in Historical Landscapes focusing on the 18th and 19th centuries led to further research, after which it seemed natural to write Regency romances inspired by Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer — either that, or a desire to help others escape into the past as she loves to do.

She lives in York, England, with her husband, within sound of the Minster bells, and appreciates her good fortune to live in a beautiful historical city.

Life In York

I live in York, England, with my husband, and love to walk, run, and belly-dance. Baking and giving massages fill in the rest of my spare time when I am not working on books or reading.

"My tastes in reading are eclectic — romances of all sorts, science fiction, fantasy, historical, paranormal and contemporary. But also classics, thrillers and mysteries, popular science, metaphysics, archaeology, history, and always cookery books."

So far I have written Regency romances, but I have plans for a time-slip Regency romance, a World War II romance, and a medieval novella.
